About

Spokane Songwriters is a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to fostering creativity, providing information, and raising community awareness about the craft of songwriting.

In 2005, recognizing the need for a venue for songwriters to share their work, Frank Delaney and Bill Kostelec began hosting twice monthly free concerts featuring 2 to 4 local songwriters. Locations and times have shifted through the years depending on venue availability, but the now monthly “Brick & Mortar” shows provide a valuable opportunity for local songwriters to network and present their original songs to the public.

The shows are currently held at Chairs, 113 W. Indiana, the 1st Thursday of every month and are hosted by songwriter Laddie Ray Melvin. Each show features 2 songwriters, plus an open mic.

In April 2010, with growing interest and the desire for greater information sharing and educational opportunities, the organization filed for non-profit registration with the state of Washington, and they are currently working toward 501c3 registration.

What does “Brick & Mortar” stand for? Brick and mortar is all about sticking together and building support. And just as we see the need for support of neighborhood brick and mortar businesses, we believe there is a need for support of local artists including songwriters.
