The April Brick & Mortar show will feature songwriters Steve Schennum and Jack Giles (bios below). This promises to be another great night of original music in Spokane! Join us Thursday, April 5th from 7 to 9 pm at Chairs Coffee 113 W. Indiana. And don’t forget we’ll kick the night off with a half hour open mic. Hope to see you there!

Steve Schennum

Steve Schennum is the lead songwriter with The Occasional String Band which has played in Spokane for over a decade and has recorded 3 spectacular cds. International recognition is probably just around the corner. The music is mostly acoustic. Styles are blues, bluegrass, rock, jazz, folk, etc. Lyrics are sometimes wildly amusing, as is their website and occasional newsletter.

Jackie McIntyre Fox

Jackie has played with several local groups and is well known in bluegrass circles.
She currently performs under the name Jackie Fox & The Hounds(local musicians).
Until recently, she was in the group “Bruised Orange”(John Prine and other delights)
but with the recent loss of their lead singer Lance Berg, the band is not performing.
Jackie has written many original songs which she describes as a mixture of country,
bluegrass and folk/americana. After taking a two year break with only limited performances,
Jackie is excited and ready to continue persuing her life long dream of singing and songwriting.

Bryan Bowers/Greg & Caridwen Spatz House Concert

Bryan Bowers, Caridwen Irvine-Spatz and Greg Spatz will be performing as a trio at a house concert Saturday, February 18 at 7:30pm, at the Kostelec home in Spokane, WA. Suggested donation is 15$. Bryan is a folk legend and powerhouse singer, autoharp master and storyteller. He will be joined by Greg Spatz, (fiddler for John Reischman and the Jaybirds, bouzouki for Mighty Squirrel, and Spokane Artist of the Year for 2011) and his wife Caridwen Irvine-Spatz for an unforgettable evening of fun and music. I was a 12 year old boy living in Illinois. My older brother bought me a small guitar and a chord book and said here learn what you can. so I learnd some chords wrote some songs and thuought I was going to be a star.(the dream of every kid). so here I am 45 years later still trying.

The Spokane Songwriters Organization is excited to be participating in an event in connection with the EWU Get Lit! festival this year. Join us for Songwriters in the Round – Poetry of the Song, Sunday April 15th, 2 to 5 pm, Holy Names Music Center Recital Hall. Artists include: Dave McRae, Steve Schennum, Cheryl Branz, Bill Tierney, Laddie Ray Melvin, Kevin Brown, Bill Kostelec and Kathy Kostelec. $10 suggested donation (students free) and free refreshments for all.
